🌎 THE PULSE — Outside & Around Loveland

  • Downtown traffic reality check: The City’s HIP Streets work has lane shifts + single-lane closures on Cleveland Ave at 4th (about 12 weeks from Jan 26) and you should expect delays. Detours suggested: E 7th, E 1st, Washington, Lincoln.

  • What’s closed right now (as of the 2/16–2/22 weekly update): Block 3 (Lincoln → Cleveland) is closed to vehicle traffic; Block 4 (Cleveland → N Railroad) is a new closure; Block 5 (Garfield → Railroad) remains closed—sidewalk access stays open for businesses.

  • Your “don’t-get-stuck” tool: Cone Zone is the City’s weekly-updated map for closures and construction impacts.

  • Downtown’s trying to make it worth it: The Downtown Loveland District says they’re doing a weekly $100 giveaway tied to shopping downtown during construction (receipt upload).

WORTH THE PARKING

Door 222 (222 E 4th)
This is your downtown dinner cheat code during HIP Streets: they’re explicitly pointing people to the alley entrance and the 2nd Street parking garage for access. Also: their Spanish tapas + wine dinner is Monday (3/2) at 6pm, $125, family-style. Worth doing once.

🍽️ RESTAURANT & BREWERY SPOTLIGHT

Grimm Brothers Brewing (Forge Campus)
Loveland’s longest-operating brewery has a full kitchen + cocktail bar, and—plot twist—“Little Fairy Tales Storytime” every Monday at 10am. Yes, at a brewery.
My move: keep this in your back pocket for “we need to get out of the house but not that far” days. Hours are solid all week (Mon–Fri 11–9; Sat 12–9; Sun 12–8).

SPOTLIGHT STORY — The Rialto is doing “family night” right

Downtown Loveland is in its “orange cones are a lifestyle” era—and it’s not just a cosmetic glow-up.

The Heart Improvement Plan (HIP Streets) is the long, messy middle of rebuilding 4th Street from the utility lines up. The weekly updates make it clear this is active, moving work: blocks closed to vehicles, sidewalks rerouted but kept open, and construction hours that start early (generally weekdays, with weather deciding how ambitious the week gets). Right now, you’re seeing closures and work areas shift as the project pushes along 4th Street block-by-block, while Cleveland Avenue carries its own lane-shift headache at the 4th Street intersection.

Here’s the part that matters for actual residents: the “invisible work” is the point. The City’s planning and updates keep circling back to water and stormwater improvements—new lines, tie-ins, crosswalk work, the kind of stuff nobody posts on Instagram but everybody notices when it fails. That Cleveland/4th utility tie-in work is a good example: it’s disruptive because it has to be, and it’s sequenced (water first, then storm).

But Loveland isn’t just trying to fix pipes. The endgame is a downtown that feels more like a place to linger—ADA sidewalk upgrades, pedestrian zones, lighting, and more room for patios. Even the public art side isn’t an afterthought: earlier plans called out integrating art and expanding the “amenity zone,” and the Downtown District keeps emphasizing long-term streetscape improvements while begging all of us to keep showing up during the ugly phase.

The forward-looking implication is simple: the next version of 4th Street will decide what kinds of businesses win downtown. A street that’s easier to walk (and hang out on) favors coffee stops, casual dinners, “let’s meet for one drink,” and gallery hopping. A street that’s only convenient to drive through favors… driving through.

So here’s the play for 2026: don’t avoid downtown. Approach it like a trailhead. Check Cone Zone first, park once, walk a block more than you want to, and grab something small—even if it’s just a museum visit or a drink. The construction phase is temporary, but the habits we build during it (show up, or don’t) stick around.
